Top-Class Spectacle

The registration deadline for the Yonex Swiss Open from 19 to 24 March has passed and one thing is already clear: badminton fans can once again look forward to a top-class spectacle in the St. Jakobshalle. In the final phase of qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris, most of the world's elite will be playing, fighting and battling for points in Basel. The depth in the fields is enormous: if you want to get a place in a seeding list, you have to be ranked at least 23rd in the world - in the two singles competitions and in the mixed, you even have to be ranked significantly higher to be in the top 8.

Many of the biggest names of the scene are registered for the rendezvous in Basel. For example, India's superstar PV Sindhu and Japan's Kento Momota will be competing in Basel at the same time for the first time since their 2019 World Championship gold medal. The women's line-up will be led by Spain's iconic Carolina Marin, Olympic champion in Rio, three-time world champion and six-time European champion. Last year's champions Pornpawee Chochuwong from Thailand and Koki Watanabe from Japan will also be defending their titles. Jenny Stadelmann, Tobias Künzi and the mixed team of Minh Quang Pham/Aline Müller are in the main draw from Switzerland thanks to wild cards.
