Success in Basel and at the World Championships

The 2026 Individual World Championships, held in New Delhi from 17 to 23 August, produced some remarkable results. France made badminton history: Alex Lanier in the men's singles and Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue in the mixed doubles won France's first-ever World Championship gold medals.

Korea also took two titles – through Paris Olympic champion An Se Young in the women's singles and Baek Ha Na/Lee So Hee in the women's doubles. In the men's doubles, China's Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang came out on top.

Many of this year's World Championship medallists had already stood on the podium at the YONEX Swiss Open in Basel:

  • Li Yi Jing won the women's doubles with Wang Yi Duo in 2026; at the World Championships she reached the semi-finals with Luo Xu Min.
  • Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah won mixed doubles bronze both at the World Championships and in Basel in 2026.
  • Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin won the mixed doubles in Basel in 2023 and took World Championship bronze in 2026.
  • Wei Ya Xin triumphed in Basel with Feng Yan Zhe in 2025; Feng Yan Zhe became world runner-up in 2026.
  • Pornpawee Chochuwong, bronze medallist at the 2026 World Championships, won the YONEX Swiss Open in 2023.
  • Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning, the current world runners-up, finished second in Basel in 2025.
  • Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand Pullela, bronze medallists at the 2026 World Championships, reached the semi-finals in Basel in 2025.

The new world champions Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue had already thrilled the Basel crowd in 2025 by reaching the quarter-finals. In 2024, Alex Lanier played two close three-set matches at the St. Jakobshalle.

The link between the World Championships and Basel shows that the YONEX Swiss Open has for years been a stage for the stars of today and tomorrow.

We are therefore already looking forward to the next edition in Basel from 16 to 21 March 2027!
