Disappointment for Sameer VERMA (IND)

An unexpected turn of events occurred in the early stages of the Yonex Swiss Open 2024 in Basel when former champion Sameer VERMA of India was eliminated in the qualifying round of the tournament. Verma, who had won the title in Basel in 2018, now found himself on the losing side against the up-and-coming 19-year-old Indonesian Alwi FARHAN.

The match was fiercely contested from the outset, but Verma was unable to find an answer to his young opponent's energetic attacks. FARHAN showed an impressive performance on court and dominated the match with a clear head and technical finesse. The final score reflected the superiority of the young Indonesian, who triumphed 21-18 and 21-12.

Alwi Farhan is already facing another test. On Wednesday in the 1/16 final, he will face the world number 20 Kanta TSUNEYAMA from Japan. A match that undoubtedly promises excitement. The Japanese player is not doing so well at the moment, having lost all of his last matches, while FARHAN is trying to confirm his victory over Verma and continue his progress in the tournament.
