Qualification day opens the YONEX Swiss Open
The YONEX Swiss Open kicks off on Tuesday at St. Jakobshalle in Basel with a full programme. A total of 46 matches are scheduled, all of which are qualifying matches.
The day's play begins at 9:30 a.m. The morning will be dominated by singles matches, before the afternoon sees an increase in doubles and mixed doubles matches.
SCHNIDER challenges RYBERG
From a Swiss perspective, all eyes will be on Milena Schnider, among others. The Swiss player will face Anna Siess Ryberg from Denmark at 12:50 p.m.
According to the world rankings, the Dane is slightly ahead of the Swiss player (No. 153) at No. 117. This makes Ryberg the slight favourite going into the match, even though Schnider certainly has a chance of keeping the match open.
AMIGUET/RACLOZ in the last round of the day
Lucie Amiguet and Caroline Racloz will be in action at the very end of the schedule. The Swiss women's doubles pair will play the last round of the day at 7:40 p.m.
They will face Hathaithip MIJAD/Napapakorn TUNGKASATAN from Thailand. The Thai pair are ranked 51st in the world, while AMIGUET/RACLOZ are ranked 66th. The Asian duo are slight favourites going into the match, but the Swiss pair certainly have a chance.
Intensive preparation on Monday
There was already a lot of activity at the St. Jakobshalle on Monday. Numerous teams took the opportunity to train on the main courts and get used to the lighting, drift and hall conditions.
There was also a lot going on at the Yonex stand: the stringing team had their hands full. Numerous rackets were ready to be restrung in time for the start of the tournament.
