It doesn’t get much more world-class than Basel
Badminton fans in Switzerland and abroad can once again look forward to a huge highlight in Basel. No fewer than 20 members of the top 10 have registered for the YONEX Swiss Open from 10 to 15 March.
The six days of tournament action in Basel promise once again to be badminton of the highest calibre. The competition at the top is extremely fierce, with all the seeded players in four of the five disciplines occupying a place in the top 16 of the world rankings – only in the men's doubles is this mark at 20th place. Particular attention is likely to be focused on last year's finalist Christo Popov. The Frenchman won the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou in December in a surprise victory.
Thirteen nations are represented in the seedings, with Taiwan alone providing nine singles or doubles players. They are followed by China, Indonesia and Taiwan with five each, and Denmark and Japan with four each. The best Swiss players will also be competing, including the current international number ones Julien Scheiwiller, Dounia Pelupessy and Nicolas Franconville/Julie Franconville.
