Defending the women’s doubles title is still a possibility

In the women’s doubles, the defending champions from China kept alive their hopes of triumphing in Basel for the second time since 2025: JIA Yi Fan/ZHANG Shu Xian (world No. 4; seeded No. 2) recorded a commanding 21-14, 21-9 victory on Friday over the Americans Francesca CORBETT/Jennie GAI (world No. 32). In the semi-finals, the third-placed pair from the 2026 All England Open will face their national team colleagues BAO Li Jing/LUO Xu Min (world No. 188), who left the entire field behind at the 2026 German Open and comfortably defeated the Taiwanese pair LIN Xiao Min/WANG Yu Qiao (world No. 37) in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Swiss Open (21-14, 21-8).

The other semi-final will be contested by the four-time European champions Gabriela STOEVA/Stefani STOEVA from Bulgaria (world ranking 10; seeded 5) and another women’s pair from China: LI Yi Jing/WANG Yi Duo (world No. 209), runners-up at the 2026 German Open, knocked the third-seeded Japanese pair Rin IWANAGA/Kie NAKANISHI (world No. 7) out of the tournament in the quarter-finals with a 21-14, 21-14 victory. Shortly afterwards, Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva won their match in the women’s doubles quarter-finals 21–13, 13–21, 21–9 against HU Ling Fang/JHENG Yu Chieh from Taiwan (world ranking 31).
