The Stoeva Sisters reach their fifth semifinals in Basel

The Stoeva sisters are once again on course for the semi-finals in Basel! Having won the women’s doubles title at the Swiss Open in 2022, today’s quarter-final victory sees them reach the semi-finals in Basel for the fifth time.

In 2017, 2018 and 2021, the Bulgarians reached the Swiss Open final each time, but were defeated by their respective opponents on each occasion. In 2019, they at least made it to the semi-finals, but that was as far as they went.

In the quarter-finals of this year’s Swiss Open, the Stoeva sisters, currently ranked 10th in the world, faced HU Ling Fang / JHENG Yu Chieh (world No. 31) from Chinese Taipei.

The Taiwanese pair lost the first set 13-21 to the Bulgarians – but the tables turned in the second set, with Hu / Jheng winning 21-13. But with the crowd cheering them on, Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva gave it their all once again and fought their way through to the next round this year as well (21-13, 13-21, 21-9).
