From march 12 to 17 2019, one of the world's largest and most important HSBC World Tour tournaments took place for the 29th time in the newly renovated St. Jakobshalle in Basel. The world ranking tournament with prize money of USD 150,000 was important for qualification points for the 2019 World Championships in Basel, in first place. With over 300 world-class players from 41 nations, a large proportion of the world's badminton elite have signed up for the Swiss Open; many of them traveled directly from the All England Open in Birmingham to Basel. As usual this event took place the week before the Swiss Open.
