European duel on an equal footing (GER-ENG)
In today’s quarter finals, Germany’s mixed double Mark LAMSFUSS/Isabel HERTTRICH play against the English pairing Marcus ELLIS/Lauren SMITH.
Although the English score the first few points, the Germans manage to control the game and score with neat, efficient offenses. For some time, the game is relatively even, none of the teams manages to be more than two points in the lead. By the end of the first game, LAMSFUSS/HERTTRICH fuel up once again and win by 21-14.
The second game begins rather balanced, too, but ELLIS/SMITH broaden their advance to 11-5. The play is shaped by long rallies, but the English pairing keeps playing more dominantly and turns the tide. Both pairings play calmly and neatly, but the English settle the game with 21-14.
The third game brings noticeably more tension, the players cries are more frequent and more intensive. ELLIS/SMITH are still playing more and more powerful and pressurize the Germans. LAMSFUSS/HERTTRICH show a growing amount of mistakes which lets their opponents advance grow. Finally, the English pairing wins the third game by 21-10. The final score reads 14-21, 21-14, 21-10 for ELLIS/SMITH, those two therefore enter the semifinals on Saturday.
