Yufei Chen's rematch versus Saena Kawakami in Basel
The first game was no good start for Kawakami: she had good ideas, how to put pressure on Chen, but failed to use them. The vast majority hit the floor outside the court. Chen wasn't that much demanded (21-9).
After the pause, Kawakami completely rebooted her play - longer rallies, a much smaller number of unforced errors suddenly reopened the final. Especially in the first half, Kawakami and Chen played on the same level, both failed to take over the lead.
In the second half of game two, Chen more often succeeded by serving Kawakamis backhand and awaiting her return under big pressure, the Japanese tended to play the shuttle too high and offer her opponent a good point to attack. Chen would use them very efficiently. After a race to catch up, Chen eventually closed the second game with 21-16.
After Saena Kawakami won the first encounter at the China Masters in 2017, Yufei Chen balanced the statistics today and proved her world ranking (number 2) right.
