Ellis/Smith missed a spot in semifinals

What a tense match between the two pairs!

The 2018 Yonex Swiss Open runner-ups, Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith were beaten by a pair from Indonesia Rivalry/Mentari, whom is also the current ranked 19.

Yet, at the beginning of the match, the British pair had everything under control. They were leading 17-12 and despite that their opponent draw the score, the British pair managed to take to first game. (21-19)

The second and the final game were quite different. It seemed that they were less aggressive compared to the previous game. Indeed, the Indonesians could attack even more and that’s what let them win the second game. They handled the pressure pretty well and were leading the final set 6-1. They imposed their game and gave difficulties to Marcus and Lauren until the end.

Despite their combativeness, Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith had to accept a touch defeat, and would have wanted to go further in the tournament. Final score : 19-21, 21-14, 21-17.
